Koros III is a Moravec from Uruk Sulcus, Ganymede, who serves as commander on "the ship" sent from Io to Mars to investigate the activities of the post-humans. On Mars, Koros was to accompany Mahnmut on The Dark Lady. Koros has a mysterious past, revolving around a failed expedition to meet the rockvecs in the asteroid belt. He controlled the weapons brought aboard "the ship". He was killed in space as the ship approached Mars.

The Koros is a river in Hungary formed by the confluence of three headstreams (the Sebes, Fekete, and Feher) that rise in Transylvania (now part of Romania). Koros was also the name of a town in Transylvania, now known by its Romanian name - Cris. Cris is located about 19km southwest of Sighisoara, the childhood home of Vlad the Impaler (and the location for the climax in Simmon's Children of the Night).
